Summary: The Association of Women in Science (AWIS), Association of Women in Computing (AWC) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) have joined forces with ColorsNWCareers.com to bring you "Getting Ahead: Tips from the Pros." The program will focus on how to land that new job -- whether for a new company, in a new field, or moving  up the ladder in your current company.

Many jobseekers and candidates ask "How do I get my resume noticed? What will make or break the interview?" Learn networking tips and career  honing moves at the October meeting!

We have put together a panel of managers, recruiters, career counselors, and human resource representatives from the science and technology disciplines to provide you with helpful insights to answer your career questions.

Everyone is welcome to attend. The program is free and open to the public.

Panelist Bios: Danika Dreslin
IT Human Resources Manager, Weyerhaeuser

Danika Dreslin holds a bachelors degree in International Relations from Tufts University (Boston, MA) and a masters in business administration from the University of Washington Business School. She joined Weyerhaeuser as a Human Resources Manager in July 2005. Prior to moving to Seattle in 2003, she resided in Boston, MA, where she worked for the Tufts University European Center, spending half the year in the town of Talloires, France. She subsequently worked at the Harvard Law School Human Rights Program, supporting their research activities and law school students seeking human rights internships abroad. In her spare time, Danika enjoys playing the piano, hiking, running and just about anything else that gets her outdoors.

Diane Zulas
Account Executive, LabTemps

Diane Zulas holds a bachelors degree in romance languages, Spanish and Portuguese. She later learned the basics of biotech through the Institute for Science Training and Research (ISTR). Diane has been with LabTemps since 1995, matching scientific-based companies with scientists in the greater Seattle area. LabTemps is a locally owned and operated company that specializes in biotech/biopharmaceutical placements but also works with the environmental, clinical/medical and food/beverage industries. With nearly two decades of experience, LabTemps has garnered a reputation as the top recruiting firm in the Seattle area and takes pride in being the industry leader for scientific placements.

Kate Duttro
Career Services Coordinator, University of Washington

As Career Services Coordinator for the School of Marine Affairs at the University of Washington, Kate helps grad students find jobs, primarily in government, non-profits and business. A primary focus of her work is helping students connect with alumni of the program and encouraging them to explore the "hidden job market." She began working at the UW in career counseling nearly 10 years ago, and has taught career courses and workshops to undergrads, grad students, staff and also to students in two career development certificate programs. Her earlier career included teaching and writing positions in two other universities, as well as freelancing for many businesses as a writer/editor. She has a doctorate of education in anthropology. Co-author of the 2002 Seattle Job Source, she is currently writing a book on career portfolios.

Missy Brost
Manager, 747 Structures Engineering Sections 11/41/44/49/MLGD’s, Commercial Airplane Division - Boeing

Missy Brost graduated from Arizona State University in May of 2001 with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In June 2004, Missy graduated with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, specializing in Polymers and Composites. She is currently employed as a first line manager in 747 structures engineering for sections 11/41/44/49/MLGD’s. She has been through rotations at Boeing working as a design engineer on a special FAA program, factory support engineer, and stress engineer on 767and 787. Prior to Boeing Missy has worked at NASA, DaimlerChrysler, Boeing Mesa and Rolls Royce. Missy has been very active with SWE through college and in her professional career. She is on the National Student Transition Task Force and just finished serving as Vice President of Career Guidance for the Pacific Northwest region. Missy can be contacted at: P.O. Sherri Edwards
Career Coach, Resource Maximizer

Sherri’s background includes 20 years of management, consulting and training for service driven companies and organizations. She has offered coaching for individuals pursuing a career change, by design or through downsizing, merger, or returning from an extended absence from the workplace for the past 10 years. Her clients learn how to identify their workplace demand and value, and how to market themselves effectively to obtain the type of work that fuels their passions and allows them to live their dreams.
